Copper Roofing in Paris — What a 15th Arrondissement Gem Taught Us About Lasting Craftsmanship

# Copper in Paris — A Hidden Gem in the 15th Arrondissement

Post from Maribel Flores — writing live from Paris, France

Not every treasure in Paris announces itself.

Some of the most beautiful things this city has to offer are tucked quietly between the grand boulevards and the famous landmarks — waiting for the people who take their time, slow down, and look a little closer.

That is exactly how I found this — just steps from my hotel, Les Jardins de Mademoiselle Hôtel & Spa, located on Rue Mademoiselle in the heart of the 15th arrondissement. I had barely stepped outside when this stopped me in my tracks.

## A Copper Roof in a Paris Garden

Nestled in a lush, beautifully maintained park just around the corner from Rue Mademoiselle in the 15th arrondissement — one of Paris's most tranquil and authentic residential districts — sits this stunning open-air bandstand. Surrounded by perfectly manicured trees, flowering gardens, and the kind of peaceful green space that only a European city seems to do just right, this little structure stopped me completely in my tracks.

Because the roof? It is copper. And it is magnificent.

## What Copper Looks Like When It Ages Gracefully

If you work alongside a slate and copper roofing specialist long enough, you start to see copper differently than most people do. You stop seeing just a roof. You start seeing time.

The deep blue-green patina covering this bandstand roof tells a story. That color — so rich, so distinctive — is what happens when copper is left to do what copper does naturally. Over years and decades, it oxidizes, developing a protective layer called verdigris that actually shields the metal underneath from further corrosion. The older it gets, the more beautiful it becomes. And the more protected it is.

This is not rust. This is not neglect. This is copper aging exactly the way it is supposed to.

## The Open Heart of the Neighborhood

This bandstand has an open, airy design — what the French call a kiosque à musique — built to welcome the community in. Open sides, graceful ironwork, and that glorious copper roof overhead. Ricardo and I both noticed it immediately. It is the kind of structure that was built with intention — not just to function, but to bring people together. To be a gathering place. A heart of the neighborhood.

And here it still stands.

## What This Means for Your Home

At Carolina Slate LLC, copper is not just a material we work with — it is a material we believe in deeply. We use 16 oz. copper exclusively on every project, from flashing and valleys to gutters and custom pipe work. We choose it because of exactly what you see in this photo — longevity, beauty, and a patina that only gets better with age.

A copper roof, copper flashing, or copper gutters installed correctly on your historic home is not an expense. It is a legacy. It is something that will outlast you and continue to protect and beautify your home for generations to come.

Paris has known this for centuries. We bring that same standard to every historic home in North Carolina and Georgia.
